Exploring miscarriage experiences in the US
Miscarriage is an extremely common reproductive health experience; approximately 20% of pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage each year. Abortion and miscarriage use the same medications and procedures as a part of routine care. This study is designed to help us understand the impact of state-level abortion restrictions on the provision of miscarriage care in Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri, while also filling a much-needed gap in the literature by centering patient's voices in research about miscarriage in the United States.
We have received funding from the Women's Global Health Institute and Indiana CTSI to carry out this project in Indiana.
2
Evaluating the impact of a youth-focused, reproductive justice text line in Missouri
Right By You (RBY) is a youth-focused, reproductive justice text line connecting Missourians to abortion care, birth care, adoption and parenting supports, contraception, and information. about their rights. We are evaluating the impact that RBY has had on how Missourians are able to get information and access care. We are also working with RBY to document their process for providing services and assessing whether expanding this model of community-based support is feasible and warranted in other settings across the US.
3
Assessing the language and accuracy of health promotion messaging around substance use during pregnancy
We are examining materials from public health units across Indiana to determine what kind of information and resources they provide about substance use during pregnancy. Then, we will work with pregnant people to assess their understanding of these materials and generate suggestions for how to ensure the information is patient-centered, medically accurate, and easy to understand.
